Sad (and slightly suspicious) News

We didn't get the dog. My husband went to pick her up at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, and the lady never showed up, so he called her. She started the conversation telling him the dog had gotten sick that morning with distemper. She eventually came around to the reality that she'd had to put her down.

Now this is awful in and of itself, and we are all very sad about it, but I can't help but be appalled at how poorly this woman handled the whole situation. She didn't call!--she told my husband she didn't have our number, but he reached her at home, and we'd sent our phone number in an email and sent her an application for the dog that included our phone numbers. Not only that, but if she didn't have the number, she could have just shown up to break the news. We were picking her up at a Petsmart that this woman works out of regularly. And then, my husband had to work the information out of her. She told him the dog was sick, and he asked, 'So where do we go from here?' And eventually--eventually--she worked around to it.

I hope she didn't suffer too much.

What a horribly stupid woman. That is so wretched. She should have told you or showed up! I'm appaled at her.

That's a horrible situation for everyone but she certainly should have handled it better than that. It does sound very suspicious...

Suspicious at the very least. Was she charging you for the dog? If so, it sounds like she may have recieved a higher offer and instead of doing the right thing, she took the money.

At least I'm hoping that was the case. I hate the thought of her putting the dog down without even talking to you about it.

I'm really sorry you and your family have had to go through this and I'm really angry with some women who I don't even know.

I'm very sorry to hear about the disappearing dog...I hope that it was something along the lines of being sold to someone else, rather than actually being sick and then put down.

Unfortunately, this doesn't really help you either way...I hope that you are able to quickly find another dog who will steal and then heal your heart.

We were paying her, and my husband thought it possible that someone might have offered her more. He thought it more likely that her people skills were simply atrocious.

The boys were very sad and a little alarmed that she'd died so suddenly, but since they had only met her once for a few moments, it didn't take them long to rally.
