Thirteen Things To Do in Austin, TX That I've Never Done
After living there for eight years, I sort of feel like I missed out...
However, my next book is set there, so a few of these places just might make an appearance

1. South by Southwest--a very big, quite significant movie/music festival held every year in March, in this the Live Music Capital of the World.

2. Dinner & a Movie at the Alamo Draft House

3. Swimming in the brisk 65 degree waters of Barton Creek Pool

4. Austin City Limits--missed out on a chance to be in the studio audience.

5. Texas State Capitol--never toured it, never even stepped in.

6. UT Football--I'm a UT grad, but I've never gone to a game.

7. Sixth Street. I went to one bar on one night--that's how exciting I am.

8. SoCo While the neighborhood of South Congress has been recently developed, there was plenty there (I think) when I was there, and I never ventured down...

9. Brunch--not at any of the many well-known establishments that serve this quirky meal.

10. Zilker Hike and Bike Trail--never hiked, never biked.

11. Skulling on Town Lake--I did canoe, several times.

12. Central Market Cooking Classes--although if I'm still so inclined, we now have a Central Market here in Houston.

13. Zilker Botanical Garden

Sounds like you could plan several weekend fun things close to your own backyard.

I plan on checking them out via your blog sometime this weekend.

Ummmm...it's Wednesday, right? Cause if not I'm in big trouble on this move thing. (gg)

You're right about this being Wed., Vicki. But I've found that most T13'ers are a bunch of go-getters. If I don't post until Thurs, I miss the crowd.

Crowd? Like who?

What's keeping you from that bike path, woman? Heck, the Tour Manager and I might start taking trips just to check out bike paths.

Maybe we're a bit obsessed, though.

Happy TT!

Well, I've lived in San Antonio for a total of 8 years, but all I've done in Austin is drive through on my way to Dallas. *wincing*

I'll be back in TX next summer, maybe I'll keep this list and check out some of the things to do in Austin.

If I ever end up in Austin, Texas, aside from spending time wondering how I got to Austin, Texa, I'll make sure to take time and hit some places on your list. :)

Happy TT

Skulling! My husband and I tried that during a free Learn to Row day here in Cleveland. I was terrified at first but it was so much fun. I'd love to go again.

I didn't realize you lived in Austin(guess I wasn't paying close enough attention). I have always wanted to go there. Everyone tells me how much I'd love it. And SouthXSouthwest sounds fun.

One of my favourite musicians is from Austin, Matt the Electrician. Have you heard of him? If you haven't been to one of his shows, add that for #14! He plays around town quite a bit.

You're missing out on Alamo Drafthouse! Jason and I love the one here in Houston. I recommend the Chicken Parmesan sandwich--yummy! Have you ever been to The Oasis restaurant (overlooks Lake Travis)...really good food!

When I was single, I used to go to 6th street with friends, but I don't have many sober memories of it! :)

Oh, wow! You just named so many of my favorite things about living here!! Swimming laps in Barton Springs, jogging around Town Lake, spinning around beneath the Capitol's rotunda so you get kinda sick, having a beer and a burger at the Alamo while you watch a movie... SXSW can be missed, however, in my opinion. Unless you just love crowds, long lines and high cover prices. :) But seriously, you should do each and every one of those things next time you're here. You'll love it. :)
